Making the Match
The matching process is a vital part of the mentoring process. If a pair does not feel compatible the relationship may not develop and the mentee may never feel they can open up and trust their mentor. The following section provides you with resources to help you plan your matching process and choose your matching criteria.

What Mentors Want
**NEW** What Mentors Want: A Guide to Really Supporting Your Mentors  Published  by the Victorian Youth Mentoring Alliance (2008).

Youth mentoring programs from across Victoria came together in July 2008 to celebrate Youth Mentoring Week. This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and raise the profile of youth mentoring across the State. Youth Mentoring Week concluded with the inaugural Volunteer Mentor Summit. The Summit was put together by the Victorian Youth Mentoring Alliance (VYMA), the national Youth Mentoring Network and the regional coordination projects.

Mentors from across Victoria came together to share ideas and experiences, celebrate their contribution and give input to the sector. About 30 mentors and 15 mentoring program coordinators took part in the event which gave mentors the opportunity to share what they love about mentoring, what makes them feel supported and ways they can further promote youth mentoring in their community. Their views can be seen in this publication.
